Objective. Under timed, exam-day conditions students will achieve a passing score on a full integrated written mock exam spanning all three credential families and complete a FANUC CERT performance mock without critical errors, then use a scored debrief to finalize their personal exam strategy.
This lesson, its worked examples and its practice questions has not yet been verified by a licensed engineer or certified journey-level tradesperson or by a certification or approval body. It is a study draft and may contain errors. Do not use it as instructions for work on a job site or on live equipment. Always follow your instructor, your supervising professional, and current official references and regulations.
VoTechWorks program approval and accreditation are still in progress. Credentials are issued only by the certifying bodies named in each program, after their own exams.
Today is your full dress rehearsal. You will sit a timed integrated written mock exam covering all three credential families—PMMI Mechatronics, Siemens SMSCP Level 1, and FANUC CERT—under conditions that match the actual exam as closely as possible. You will then complete the full FANUC CERT performance sequence in the robot cell, scored on a NOCTI-style checklist. At the end of the day, you will meet with your instructor for a scored debrief and leave with a signed, written exam strategy plan. There is nothing new to learn today; this is about executing what you already know under pressure and finding any remaining gaps before they cost you on the real exam.
During the written mock, treat the room as an actual testing site. No notes, no phones, no open browser tabs. A basic calculator is permitted. Sit at a single station and do not talk until time is called. The proctor will announce time at the midpoint and again five minutes before the end. When you receive your score sheet by domain immediately after the session, do not compare scores with classmates—use that time to review your own results quietly before the performance portion.
For the performance mock, all standard shop safety rules apply with no exceptions. Before you touch the robot or the cell, don the required PPE: safety glasses and any additional PPE specified by the cell's posted hazard assessment. Before any maintenance or setup step that requires entering the cell or defeating a guard, apply full lockout/tagout per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147—identify the energy source, isolate it, apply your personal lock, and verify zero energy state. Electrical work inside the panel is governed by NFPA 70E: verify absence of voltage with a properly rated meter before making contact. Machine guarding requirements under OSHA 1910.212 and robot-specific safeguarding under ANSI/RIA R15.06 must be confirmed in place before automatic-mode operation begins. No one enters the robot's restricted envelope while power is on unless the teach pendant is in T1 mode and you hold the enabling device—that is an ANSI/RIA R15.06 requirement and a critical checklist item.
PMMI Mechatronics areas: Fluid Power; Industrial Electricity 1 and 2; Mechanical Components 1 and 2; Motor and Motor Controls; Programmable Logic Controllers 1 and 2. Each area is its own knowledge exam in the real credentialing process, so your mock score sheet will break out each area separately. Know your cylinder-force and hydraulic-speed formulas, 4–20 mA scaling, synchronous speed (Ns = 120f / P), slip, Ohm's law and power, gear and pulley ratios, and the five IEC 61131-3 PLC languages.
Siemens SMSCP Level 1 domains: electrical components; mechanical components and electrical drives; electro-pneumatic and hydraulic control circuits; digital fundamentals and PLCs. Expect questions on series and parallel circuits, drive fundamentals, ladder logic, and pneumatic/hydraulic circuit symbols.
FANUC CERT written domains: HandlingTool Operation and Programming, and ROBOGUIDE offline simulation. Topics include teach pendant jogging, coordinate frames (world, user, tool), I/O configuration, program creation and editing, and system backup procedures.
You will rotate through the cell one at a time. The instructor scores you; observers score their own checklists to build evaluation skills. Complete these steps in order:
1. Pre-operation safety check — verify guarding, E-stop function, and teach pendant enable switch before energizing.
2. Coordinate-frame jogging — demonstrate jogging in world, joint, and tool frames at T1 speed with the enabling device held correctly.
3. Tool-frame calibration — use the three-point or six-point method to set a tool frame; confirm the TCP is accurate by rotating about the TCP and observing minimal tip movement.
4. Program creation — create a motion program using position registers, motion types (J, L, C), and appropriate speed and termination settings.
5. I/O setup — configure at least one digital output and one digital input in the I/O screen; demonstrate a controlled signal.
6. Automatic-mode run — cycle-start the program in AUTO mode from outside the cell with guarding confirmed; monitor execution.
7. Fault acknowledgment — respond to an instructor-introduced alarm, identify the fault, clear it correctly, and resume.
8. System backup — perform a controller backup to USB media, confirm the files are present, and label the backup.
A single critical error—entering the restricted envelope with power on and no enabling device, bypassing a guard, or skipping lockout before a maintenance step—results in an automatic checklist failure regardless of score on other items.
After the performance mock, you meet individually with your instructor. Bring your domain score sheet and your performance checklist. Together you will:
Your instructor will sign the plan if you are cleared to register, or will document a specific remediation assignment with a follow-up date. Instructor sign-off is the final gate before you schedule the actual credentialing exams.
Answer each question, then check it. Nothing is recorded; this is your own practice.

Does the school offer financial aid?
No. We don’t offer financial aid because we’re free. No, really: completely free.
Do you offer industry certification?
No. We are not certified yet, so we can’t offer that to students. What we do offer is knowledge and understanding of a trade.
Enroll first in the trade you’re interested in. You get your key, your program opens, and you begin studying.
